STYLE ICON ALERT: Rihanna

Not only does she slay the industry with her incredible voice, edgy lyrics, and soulful rhythms, Rihanna continues to be a MAJOR presence in the world of fashion. Whether she’s out for a casual stroll or posing for the cover of a magazine, she has a way of rocking anything she is put into.

Her most recent shoot for Paper Magazine has everybody buzzing (she has been all over Twitter for how amazing she looks). I mean, not many people could pull off such a mix of colors and edgy details, while bringing in a certain soft punk rock vibe to wrap it all up. The shoot features whimsical and outlandish hair styles as a main focus for each look, going from green spikes to a lavender high ponytail to an electric orange low pony. The makeup and jewelry paired with each look are assorted shades to match the hair color so everything comes together in a monochromatic way on top. The outfits are then generally monochromatic and matching between top and bottom pieces such as a pale sunshine yellow skirt, bra, and netted shirt she wore to go with her green hair or the oversized orange and green striped collared rugby shirt she wore to go with her clementine colored low style hair. Rihanna can also be seen sporting denim being used as a dark wash jumper and an acid wash jacket as a staple textile for some of these looks.

All of the looks Paper Magazine put together were perfect for the new season, and picking Rihanna as their cover star made it even better. This shoot introduces the trends of fishnets and netted fabric coming (most commonly seen now as people wearing fishnet tights under ripped and/or cropped jeans) and is most definitely bringing back color-blocking for the Spring (monochromatic and mono-patterned looks are the IN for spring fashion). This Spring 2017 season is going to be all about soft colors and patterns with edgy and metallic details added through hair, makeup, and accessories. Based on this killer shoot, Rihanna proved herself to be the ultimate girly, punk rock, edgy face for spring fashion.
